Approved Electives

The following are approved electives for the B.A. and B.S. degree ONLY. At least half of the electives for the major must be taken within the department.

Courses in the Cognitive Science 19X series (190ABC, 198, 199) may NOT be used as an elective to satisfy the major requirements for the B.A. degree. One course in the Cognitive Science 19X series may be used as an elective to satisfy the requirements for the B.S. degree, but only with the approval of both the instructor who supervised the course and the undergraduate adviser.

A course taken outside the department must meet the following criteria:

  1. The course must deal with topics and issues that are clearly part of cognitive science.
  2. The material must not be available in a course offered inside the department.

The disciplines include:

  • Cognitive Science
  • Computer Science
  • Communications
  • Linguistics
  • Philosophy
  • Psychology
  • Education Studies (EDS)

You can download an up to date list of approved courses or contact one of the Cognitive Science undergraduate advisors, Katy Schoeneweis or Thanh Maxwell, either through the Virtual Advising Center or by visiting CSB 139 or 140 if you have any questions.
