The TMC/CREATE School Partnership Program is seeking volunteers to serve in classroom and non-classroom positions at two partner school sites: The Preuss School UCSD (http://preuss.ucsd.edu/) and Gompers Preparatory Academy (http://gompersprep.org/). Applications are due this Friday, October 4th!
Volunteers support students in grades 6-12 at high-needs charter schools, where educators are utilizing innovative and effective methods of shaping positive outcomes for low-income, first-generation college-bound youth.
For students who are interested in obtaining academic credit, this program is offered in conjunction with the TMC 198 class. TMC 198 is a 4 unit class that meets once per week to discuss relevant topics with other volunteers. This fulfills the Marshall College Upper Division Disciplinary Breadth (not significant writing) GE requirement for students of any major, and the Sixth College Practicum Requirement .
Available Positions: General categories include: tutoring/mentoring, counseling/advisement, student services, special education, administrative assistance, and health. Classroom tutoring positions are available at both school sites and non-classroom positions vary.
Service Commitment: All volunteers commit to one quarter of service, excluding Finals Week. For classroom tutoring positions, volunteers are required to be onsite for a minimum of 4 hours per week (two class periods). For non-classroom positions, the requirement is 10 hours per week.
Transportation: Volunteers are able to take the UCSD shuttle to the Preuss School for free, and volunteers for Gompers Preparatory Academy arrange carpools amongst themselves once schedules are determined.
All applicants (ANY college and ANY major) are accepted to the program! Applications are due by Friday of Week 1.
